What day is it....
We really have no idea anymore! Days of the week are all Friday! On our actual Friday, Day 2 in Barcelona we literally walked 'till we dropped! We started the day out by talking a long walk along the Barceloneta boardwalk to the W Hotel. The W is awesome! It looks cool online but is so much cooler in person! We felt like we were in Dubai because of the uniqueness of the structure! After we walked along the end of Las Ramblas (the main shopping street). We got lost. Well kind of; I thought the Park Guell was at the Paleu Guell but it wasn't. Park Guell was completely across town. We took two subways, walked about a mile and a half uphill. Only to get to the park and find out that the next ticket time available wouldn't be for 3 hours during which we already had plans! However we did walk around the non ticketed area, another uphill walk. It was all worth it though! The views were awesome! We stood staring out trying to figure out which monuments we could see! We then walked back another 30 minutes to our apartment and let our barking dogs rest!
The biggest excitement of our day was going to the AMAZING La Sagrada Familia. If you haven't heard of it already you need to look it up! James and I both decided this was our favorite sight from our entire trip! We have never seen anything like it! This is a church also designed by Antoni Gaudi. So of course it is over the top. One thing that makes it so over the top is that Gaudi did not want this church to be built with any money other than donations! The church was started in {I think} 1926 and is still largely unfinished! I think the hope is to have it completed by 2026, the hundredth anniversary! The outside is amazing, there is so much detail and thought put into every bit! But what really impressed James and I was the interior!
The most spectacular stained glass windows.
The most spectacular arches, columns, staircases, EVERYTHING!
It is so hard to put into words and pictures only show so much. We spent just over 2 hours here alone! We highly highly recommend anyone interested in going to Europe to take the time to come here!
These are what the huge bronze doors look like up close! All different languages with scripture and meaningful religious words!
One thing we did after exploring the inside and outside was to take an elevator ride up the Nativity Facade Tower. This is 50 meters up. The passage is only enough room for one person to walk through. We had the most amazing view and were able to see so much more of the cathedral area that has yet to be completed!
To say the least we were stunned with the beauty of this cathedral!
