We Made It!

Wow, you never realize how exhausting traveling really is until you travel FOREVER 8 hours froward in time! Yesterday, James and I arrived to Shannon, Ireland after nearly 18 hours of traveling! After going through the easy customs process we started the car rental process. Which was easy but costly and annoying.

We were given the keys and told good luck!

Here is a picture of James driving right when we got on the freeway! He is the sole driver because we didn't want to pay an extra €9.00 per day! James says that getting used to driving the stick in your left hand isn't bad at all you just have to think about it a little more. It's the driving on the wrong side of the road and making turns that throws you off! Driving on the freeways, easy! Driving on these tight roads, scary!
And we've driven on some that are even more narrow! The bushes along the road are constantly scraping the car (good thing we had to get full insurance)!

So our main goals yesterday were to learn how to drive the car and get to our hostel. It took us about 3-4 hours to drive to our hostel with a couple quick stops along the way, but we made it! I helped James navigate most of the way but it was difficult to keep my eyes open! Upon arrival it was hard to keep them shut, the view is incredible!

After taking a couple hour nap, we drove to the nearby town of Ballyferriter and bought our first pints of Guinness!

We walked around town a bit and then got some dinner at another nearby pub. James had the roast lamb with salad and chips, I had ricotta and spinach ravioli with salad and chips. We also tried another beer (Carlsberg) and hard cider (Bulmer's)!

After that we called it quits and went to bed at our hostel. It was an interesting night of sleep on two bunk beds, then sharing one bed in order for us to both look out the window at the rain and listen to the crying sheep!

This morning we got up and drove into town at 7:30- apparently no one starts to wake up until after 8 because everything was closed. We stopped in at the grocery store, bought a few things for sandwiches and salads, then walked around Dingle Town.

We made some sandwiches and went on a rainy hike! The scenery is incredible!!

View of the Blasket Islands!

Not sure what the rest of the day holds for us, maybe more hiking, drinking and checking out the Dingle Town a bit more.

Tomorrow we'll be off to Doolin, Aren Islands and the Cliffs of Moher!

Lots of love,
Robin & James
